Tell Rep. Valadao: Hands off Medicaid!

Your member of Congress, Rep. David Valadao (CA-22), just voted for a budget resolution that could cut up to $880 billion from Medicaid, which could kick millions of children, elderly people, and low-income Americans off their health care. All so they can pass even more tax cuts for billionaires.

Get the Facts:

  • Who uses Medicaid? In Rep. Valadao’s district, 48.7% of people receive services through Medicaid, most of them children, pregnant moms, and older community members. [Georgetown CCF]

  • Where does the $880 billion number come from? The budget blueprint passed by House Republicans a few weeks ago includes $880 billion in cuts from the House Energy and Commerce Committee, almost all of that committee’s budget funds Medicaid and Medicare, 93% of the committee's non-Medicare budget funds Medicaid. [KFF]

  • What services will be impacted? Medicaid is the single largest source of federal funding to states. It provides coverage for 80 million Americans, including 2 in 5 children and 3 in 5 nursing home residents, and allows hospitals and clinics around the country to keep their doors open and serve everyone. [PIH]

  • How does this benefit billionaires? The total cuts proposed in the Republican budget — around 1.7 trillion over the next ten years — are going to pay for extending Trump's tax cuts for the ultra-rich. Their plan is simple: cut critical programs we rely on to give themselves and their friends huge tax cuts.

The budget process is far from over however, and there are many steps before this budget resolution becomes law. Sign our petition to tell Rep. Valadao: Hands off Medicaid!
