Investigate Gov. Andrew Cuomo's Cover-up of Nursing Home Deaths NOW
Under Governor Andrew Cuomo, the most vulnerable New Yorkers in nursing homes perished from COVID-19 and the Governor covered up the scale of the tragedy. Tell the New York legislature that we need an independent investigation into his cover-up now.
When COVID-19 struck last year, Gov. Cuomo hid the truth about deaths in New York nursing homes. Sick nursing home residents were not properly isolated, staff came to work sick, the virus spread quickly, and Cuomo hid the data on infections and deaths to save face. When our state was most vulnerable, Gov. Cuomo jumped in to expand his powers and protect those closest to him rather than steer us out of the crisis truthfully. To add insult to injury, he also granted legal immunity to nursing home executives, many of whom provided thousands in contributions to his campaign, making it impossible for those who lost loved ones to pursue legal recourse. The only apologies offered by his administration were to legislators, behind closed doors, motivated only by political inconvenience.
This is a devastating failure of moral leadership. Thousands of New Yorkers died and instead of accepting responsibility and providing answers, the Governor and his administration tried to cover up their deaths. We need a full, independent investigation to determine exactly what happened and just how far the Governor went in covering up the truth.
