New York families are being crushed by rising cost-of-living prices and a worsening affordability crisis. Groceries, rent, childcare, clothes — the cost of raising a family has become so punishingly high that many New Yorkers have no choice but to leave. Now more than ever, our state elected leaders must take bold action to to lift people out of poverty, stabilize families, and support children — the Working Families Tax Credit is the best solution we have to improve the lives of millions of families across the state.

In January, Governor Hochul proposed a temporary expansion to the Empire State Child Credit (ESCC) that would only raise the credit from a maximum of $330 per child to a maximum of $1000 for children under 4 and $500 for children ages 4 through 16. We can and MUST do more.

Under the Working Families Tax Credit, families will receive a much larger credit up to $1600 per child, including 17 year olds. More money in families pockets means more resources to pay for essentials like groceries, rent, clothing and childcare. And once passed, the WFTC will help New York State slash child poverty by 50% by 2031.
